Counseling FAQ

What types of therapy do you use?

I take a tools-based, psychoeducational approach. I love being able to teach my clients the tools they need to overcome anxiety, grow confidence and self-esteem, and cultivate resiliency and mental wellness. My sessions often include cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, emotional freedom techniques, strengths-based therapy, narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, motivational interviewing, art, and expressive arts therapy, play therapy, sand tray therapy, and Ecowellness.

What is Ecowellness?

Ecowellness is the practice of spending time in nature to help boost your overall health, wellbeing, improve your mood, and strengthen your immune system. Research has shown that having a relationship with nature and spending more time outdoors is linked to the ability to effectively work through challenges, develop resilience, and can help our bodies to self-regulate.

If you choose to adopt the practice of Ecowellness for yourself or your child. I will work with you to identify nature-based activities that feel the most effective for your overall mental wellness plan.

Who benefits from Ecowellness?

Everyone! Research has shown that nature-based activities can help effectively manage anxiety, depression, ADHD, and other sensory processing issues and are helpful in executive functioning and self-esteem development.

How long does counseling take?

The length and frequency of treatment depend upon the client’s individual needs. It is helpful to discuss this at the beginning and periodically throughout your treatment.

How can I be sure counseling/therapy is helping?

Ask yourself (or your child) some questions. Do I feel I have a positive alliance with my therapist? Do I feel more hopeful than I did before I started counseling? Have I completed or made progress on any of my goals? Am I keeping all the appointments I schedule? Do I have more confidence that I can reach my goals than I did before I started? Discuss this with your therapist.

Do you accept insurance?

I do not accept insurance. Please visit my session rates and scheduling page to learn more about my fee and the payment types I accept.

What is your late policy/missed appointment policy?

If a client is more than 15 minutes late for a scheduled appointment, the appointment will be considered a “no-show” and must be rescheduled. “No-shows” for appointments are subject to being charged for the session. I have a No Cancelation Policy. You will be charged the full fee for the missed appointment unless the session can be rescheduled within two weeks. Prescheduled absences, vacations, medical emergencies, and some special circumstances are accepted. My voicemail/email is available day and night for messages.

How Long are your sessions?

My sessions are 50 minutes in length.

Are you LGBTQ+ friendly? Do you believe in social justice work?

Yes, to both! I run an inclusive, gender-affirming, identity-affirming, social justice-based practice. My goal is to provide a “safe space to be brave” for everyone, regardless of one’s culture, identity, family, values, beliefs, and religion. I have taken many trainings based on social justice counseling and am committed to continuing to educate myself on social justice issues, inclusivity, and equity.
