Career Counseling

As a creative career counselor, I am here to support you in crafting a new professional narrative.

Your career is part of your life’s story, giving you identity, meaning, and purpose. Our stories are ever-evolving, and sometimes we find ourselves in a place of transition. I offer career-related counseling services for those seeking guidance, support, and assessments to figure out in what direction to take their professional life.

We all want to feel like we have a calling and purpose, but it can be hard to understand when so many factors are at play. The career decision-making process can help us discover what is suitable for us at whatever stage in life we are currently in. Maybe you are a mom returning to the workforce after some time off to raise your children. Or a young adult several years out of college but lacking direction. You might feel burned out in an already established career or interested in taking a leap of faith on a long-ago career desire.

My approach to career counseling is rooted in career narrative or career story-making. We work together to develop an authentic career story that gives you clarity, direction, and motivation. In conjunction with creating your career story, you will be offered the opportunity to take assessments to learn more about your values, strengths, personality types, and careers that fit best with who you are. I can also offer guidance in the initial job search and networking and assist you with resume/cover letter writing, interview skills, and professional development.

Finding the right job can take time, and professional support and coaching will greatly ease this process. I offer a safe, supportive, and creative environment where you can be honest, acknowledge and work to overcome your fears, reflect on your past choices, share your dreams and goals, and focus on taking control of your future.

Why I became a career counselor

I have walked a similar journey as you. After graduating college in 2007 with a degree in anthropology, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I had spent my undergrad years developing a stronger sense of self, and I knew I was a good listener, empathetic, compassionate, and passionate about helping others. Still, it took me many years to craft my current career narrative. I held multiple positions in higher education before going back to school to pursue a graduate degree in counseling. Each of my previous jobs has offered me knowledge about my direction, and years ago, I began considering if career counseling was my calling. After much exploration, trial and error, and a couple of detours, I have arrived; I am home.

I love my line of work. Helping people feel the same way about their careers as I feel about mine is truly one of the best feelings ever. On top of a master’s degree in school counseling/consulting, I have specialized training in career counseling and am a certified career counselor through the National Career Development Association. I have years of experience in secondary and higher education, working with students in career exploration, college counseling, assessment, and advising. I currently sit on the board of the Oregon Career Development Association, and I am a member of the Oregon Career Development Association and the National Career Development Association. I regularly seek opportunities to develop my counseling skills and career development knowledge through courses, conferences, and continuing education.
