Counseling for Children and Teens

– Counseling for Kids and Teens (Ages 5 to Young Adult) –

If your child or teen is going through a difficult time, I can help them with:

·     Managing anxiety and overwhelm

·     Improving self-esteem

·     Coping with ADHD

·     Resolving stress related to friends and school

The good news is that with the right tools and the help of a caring, compassionate, and FUN therapist, Kids and teens can feel better and strengthen their emotional well-being.

I understand kids based on my 5+ years as a school counselor and parent. I help kids with ongoing challenges (ADHD, academic, social, and general anxiety), as well as those facing the everyday bumps and transitions of growing up.

My goal is to help kids and teens cultivate positive growth and mental wellness by developing the tools to deal with our thoughts, emotions, external stresses, and life transitions

I have deep empathy and understanding of how hard it is to be a young person in this current climate.

– Parenting Coaching –

Do you want to provide loving support to your child or teen experiencing self-doubt or school challenges? Do you want to have a more positive relationship with your child?

My parenting coaching sessions will provide tools for you to help your child overcome emotional difficulty, build resiliency and develop self-love. I will also help you deal with some of the inevitable feelings of helplessness and the limits that come as your child gains independence. The tools, skills, and strategies I provide are aimed at helping you parent from a more emotionally present place.

In a non-judgmental setting, you’ll acquire evidence-based tools and skills congruent with your personal style and values. You’ll feel more empowered and confident in your parenting, connected to your loved ones while bringing more peace and calmness to your home.

As a parent myself, I know parenting is truly one of the hardest yet most important things we do.

Confidentiality

When your child steps into my office, I hold what they tell me in confidence. The exception to this creed is if a child or teen tells me someone is hurting them, they are thinking about hurting themselves, or they are thinking about hurting someone else.

Frequently it is beneficial for a child or teen’s parents or caregiver to know about what is going on in the therapeutic process as they often act as the facilitator of therapeutic practices at home. I will always ask the child or teen permission first.

Release of Information

I can share information with school counselors, teachers, or other school personnel if the parent or guardian signs a release of information.

Mandatory Reporting

By law, the State of Oregon requires me to be a mandated reporter.

A mandated reporter is anyone required by the state to report suspected abuse or neglect, whether this abuse is physical, psychological, sexual or financial. Every state in the U.S. has slightly different laws regarding mandatory reporting. Mandatory reporting extends only to members of vulnerable populations. These populations include:

  • Infants
  • Children under the age of 18
  • An 18, 19 or 20-year-old who receives services from a child-caring agency
  • Elderly persons
  • Persons with mental illnesses
  • People with intellectual or physical disabilities
  • Residents of nursing homes or care facilities
